Manitoba’s eleven Friendship Centres are dedicated to providing a wide range of programs and supports that meet the unique needs of urban Indigenous individuals, families, and communities.
Family and Youth Programming:
- Youth Engagement: Friendship Centres provide leadership development, cultural activities, and safe spaces for Indigenous youth to connect, learn, and thrive.
- Parenting Support: Parenting Programs focus on Indigenous parenting approaches, child development, and building strong family relationships.
Cultural Programs and Events:
- Language Revitalization: Friendship Centres offer language classes, workshops, and resources to support the learning and revitalization of Indigenous languages throughout Manitoba.
- Traditional Arts: Engage in activities that celebrate and teach traditional arts such beading, moccasin making, drum making, and ribbon skirt workshops.
Social Support and Advocacy:
- Counselling Services: Friendship Centres provide culturally sensitive and trauma-informed counselling services to support individuals and families facing persona, emotional, and mental health challenges.
- Advocacy and Referral Services: Referral services assist individuals in navigating various systems including housing, education, healthcare, and social services.
Educational and Employment Supports:
- Educational Assistance: Friendship Centres offer scholarships, tutoring, and mentoring programs to help Indigenous students achieve their educational goals.
- Employment Programs: Employment programs offer job readiness training, career counselling, and resume writing assistance to enhance employment opportunities for urban Indigenous individuals.
