Welcome to the

Riverton Friendship Centre

The Riverton & District Friendship Centre (RDFC) is a non-profit Indigenous community organization that provides programs and services to Riverton and the surrounding communities. Essentially, the motto of RDFC is “Connecting People, Connecting Cultures”, which guides everyday programming and principles within the Centre to promote community unity and inclusion. The Friendship Centre takes a status blind approach to all programs and is open to and accepts anyone who walks in the doors. However, integral within the activities of the Friendship Centre is a priority focus on programming and services for Indigenous people.

In operation since 1981, RDFC, offers services and programs that meet the educational, social, economic, athletic and cultural needs of individuals and groups in the community. The offerings of RDFC have expanded over the years and evolved the meet the needs of the community. Transitional housing, a Food Bank, a Community Garden, a Senior’s Centre, Cultural programs, Childrens programs and extensive youth programming are just a few of the areas in which RDFC continues to expand.

RDFC has a long history of the support and development of young leaders in the Friendship Centre, with many youth having gone on to leadership roles within not only Friendship Centres, but other organizations as well. It is a strong core belief of RDFC that the investment in young people builds intergenerational cooperation within the community and leads to shared decision-making in matters of importance.
